The Power of Attention on “The Eternal Now” - Introduction
In this section, we explore how our attention can transform and influence our perception of time, and how we process the sense of Self in our daily interactions with people and circumstances. It invites us to view life from a different perspective — beyond past memories and future expectations — by focusing on the present moment, the Eternal Now.
It points to the possibility of consciously using the power of attention to direct our energy and focus toward the simple act of observing the moment as it is. Without judgment, preconceived ideas, or internal commentary, we may experience the Presence — or, more accurately, the Presence experiencing life as you.
By stepping into the dimension of Now and going deeper into the sense of self, we begin to observe our thoughts and behaviors with clarity and detachment. This allows us to “see” the ego in action. Only then can we take further steps into conscious observation and begin to face the identity constructed by the ego.
The Field of Attention on the Eternal Now is the only absolute reality beyond the dream of forms.
Memories and thoughts are instruments used to navigate the world of forms. They are excellent servants, but not good masters. By viewing life from the Field of Now, we enter the timeless moment—the so-called “Eternal Life”—always happening now. It is the only absolute truth that has ever happened or will ever happen, if you allow it to be. Otherwise, you continue dreaming, thinking that “you” are living “your” life separated from the Source of Life.
Wake up and realize that the so-called “spiritual world” is the awakened stage of your existence now. It is not a place; it is the Field in this Timeless Now—the absolute Reality. Sometimes you come here to play “the game of life” and forget who or what you are, or why you are here. Meanwhile, in reality, “You,” when awakened to the Now, “look” from a different dimension—the fifth dimension (the dimension beyond time and space), where the View is undeniably one with the Now.
To “see it” is to “look” from the Inner Single Eye—the Field of Attention unified with the Source of Awareness, present here and now beyond the limits of time.
To realize this truth, there must be sincere self-observation without judgment. Notice whether you can “see” your thoughts and emotions as they arise while you observe them in the present moment.
One of the hardest parts of the human experience is self-observation, partly because of our physically conditioned state. We automatically look outward with two eyes and are rarely conscious of our inner vision—the Single Eye. This means our attention is most often focused on external, conditioned reality rather than on our own inner and transcendent reality.
In addition, our primary sense of self—when identified with the ego, the “little me”—is limited in its ability to recognize the view from the Single Eye, the Source of Life within. The “little me” is inherently dualistic: comparing, judging, analyzing, complaining, and giving little or no attention to the Now—the only moment that ever was, is, or will be.
The Timeless Now is the gateway to the “Kingdom” within—the realization of who or what you truly are as absolute reality. Yes, you can enjoy and live within the relative reality of the world of forms. But if you truly want to know the deeper meaning of existence and experience absolute reality, the gateway—and the only possible moment—is Now.
Don’t wait until death to find it out.
“Find death before death finds you.”
The Ego Shell
Identifying the “hardness” of your ego’s shell
Ask yourself sincerely: What is your motivation for wanting to know the Self? Why do you want to know “it”? Is it simple curiosity? Or are you tired of suffering — tired of inflicting pain on yourself and others?
The ego always has a reason to hide its true motivation, so vigilance is essential to “see” the movement of thoughts and emotions that the “little me” carries in any circumstance. It may hide behind guilt, fear, insecurity, low or high self-esteem, or feelings of inferiority or superiority… the list goes on.
So be honest. Take a “look inside” at this “little-me” sense of self, and in a lighthearted way, choose which type of hardened shell best reflects your attitude or behavior toward people and circumstances.
Is it “easy-going,” letting life flow naturally?
“Middle-tender,” not quite ready to release the resistant mind?
“Hard-core,” stubborn and controlling?
Or “really hard,” stuck in total control of people and conditions around you?
Choose the one below that most closely reflects the ego pattern and behavioral tendencies you may carry.

Easy

Middle

Hard

Hardest
The different levels of the ego’s hardened shell give you an idea of how much control you impose over your choices and decisions, and how strong your need is to be right in any life circumstance. It reveals how “rigid” your sense of self may be in relation to any viewpoint you hold about your life situation—events that happened in the past, those happening now in your daily life, or even what may happen in the so-called “future.”
These levels of the “hardened shell” allow you to look within and glimpse into yourself more clearly, so you can see and acknowledge that we are, in one way or another, conditioned by past events, education, culture, and beliefs. In addition, it is natural to develop a certain sense of self-identity during this lifetime.
By recognizing the rigidity of the ego’s shell, you begin to identify the “tools” needed to crack it open and allow the Light of Pure Awareness to shine through. No matter how hard the shell may seem, there is always the possibility of opening it so the Light of Consciousness can shine through “You.”
First, allow this moment to be as it is, without judgment. Do not resist your present-moment circumstances or the so-called “problems.” This is a necessary first step if you truly want to continue this journey toward recognizing the Real Self. Otherwise, you may simply read these words and remain absorbed in the superficial reality of daily life—with its endless activities, worries, and problem-solving conditioning.
Fear may arise as you go deeper into your life situation—into problems that seem to need solving or events that have already happened. But no matter what you “see” or feel, face it and “watch” it. Observe it without judgment or any sense of guilt, shame, inferiority, or superiority. Do not judge—simply observe and face reality as it is, whatever has happened or is happening in your life.
By accepting the present moment without resistance, you allow the flow of life to begin moving through your energy field. A deeper wisdom and guidance then reveal “the way,” helping you see choices and decisions from a different dimension—a fifth-dimensional point of view.
If you are able to allow whatever happens without resistance, you will notice that you open a gap—a space—in which you can observe your thoughts and emotions. Even if only for a few seconds or minutes, the “shell” begins cracking.
You may “feel the crack” when you glimpse your thoughts and emotions as an observer and see their movement within the mind—trying to capture your attention by “speaking words” in your head or activating emotions that trigger more thoughts. By remaining in observation without reaction, the Light of Consciousness shines through the crack, revealing that your self-created identity is nothing more than a “shell.” It has no absolute reality. It is merely a relative reality in this Play of Life in which you participate during this brief human existence.
The different levels of the ego’s hardened shell within the personality may range from soft to extremely rigid. They can be recognized only when you sincerely look within yourself and courageously face your egoic behaviors, patterns, fears, and any identification with the “little me.”
Observing the ego
The Non-Judgmental View
Pay attention to the “doorway of guilt.” After you open this door and walk through it, you will encounter two pathways.
One directs your thoughts and feelings toward further egoic behavior and suffering, finding ways to rebel against the results and consequences. You may say, “It is not my fault! … the problem is with him/her/the other people, not me!”
The other pathway leads to a subtle ego strategy—hiding behind guilt itself. The ego finds refuge in another identity: the guilty one, the victim, supported by past excuses presented as justification for its behavior.
By paying full attention to what is happening now, without judgment, the “View” arises in your consciousness and reveals that you have a choice: to choose the path of “feeling” guilt, or to “see” it and observe it without judgment.
If you listen carefully to the Silence within, the feeling of guilt can become a tool used by consciousness to call your attention inward, helping you to “see” through your Inner Eye. Allow it to reveal—without judgment—the actions and behaviors you have directed toward others, toward yourself, and in any circumstance affected by your past actions, even moments of unconsciousness.
See without judgment. Observe until there is no place left to hide emotions, feelings, or thoughts. Every movement of thought is observed—and “You” may briefly awaken.
You may glimpse Presence—or rather, Presence “sees” through you and reveals your True Self.
Be alert to the “back doors” the ego uses to escape the “View.” It may even attempt “salvation” through certain forms of spirituality or religion. Many systems can become subtle mechanisms for control or for hiding from your own Inner Power.
For example, religion may offer confession as a way to remove your “sins.” That sounds appealing to the ego—what a convenient opportunity to “clean” yourself of wrongdoing. After a few prayers or acts of penitence, the ego feels “free” from guilt and ready to resume its patterns. What a clever way to avoid true responsibility.
To genuinely begin progressing toward Higher Consciousness, you must be willing to face your fears and guilt for as long as necessary—until they no longer dominate your thoughts and emotions. Only then will you begin to make real choices, guided by the Consciousness that “sees” through you.
Can you feel the pain within yourself—and, more importantly, within those who may have been affected by your actions or behavior? View and feel it without judgment. Observe your thoughts and feelings, and ask: Who is acting? Who is choosing? What is this “I Am” that appears to be doing anything?
Remain in this Space of Silence for a while.
Let Silence reveal your True Self and guide your choices accordingly.
Finding the “Kingdom” (Dimension) Within
Observing from the “Transcendent Dimension”
According with Eckhart Tolle Teachings
What is behind the sense perception? What is behind the emotions? What is behind the thoughts?
“That it is the alert presence, the spacious awareness the field of attention… the Eternal I am”.
“The “I” can be seeing as the space where everything happens, the field of attention, spaciousness… undeniable presence”
“Once you have had a glimpse of awareness or Presence, you know it firsthand. It is no longer just a concept in your mind.”
According with A Course in Miracles Teachings
It is hard to understand what “The Kingdom of Heaven is within You” really means.
This is because it is not understandable to the ego, which interprets it as if something outside is inside, and this does not mean anything to the ego.
The word “within” is unnecessary.
The Kingdom of Heaven is You!
Ego Favorite Strategies for Strengthening Itself
According with Eckhart Tolle Teachings
“Complaining is one of the ego’s favorite strategies for strengthening itself. Every complain is a little story the mind makes up that you completely believe in. Whether you complain aloud or only in thoughts makes no difference. Some egos that perhaps don’t have much else to identify with, easily survive on complain alone. When you are in the grip of such an ego, complaining, especially about other people, is habitual and, of course, unconscious, which means you don’t know what you are doing. Applying negative mental labels on people, either to their face or more commonly when you speak about them to others or even just think about them, is often part of the pattern.”
“See if you can catch yourself complaining in either speech or thought, about a situation you find yourself in, what other people do or say, your surroundings, your life situation, even the weather. To complain is always nonacceptance of what is. It invariably carries an unconscious negative charge.
“When you complain, by implication you are right and the person or situation you complain about or react against is wrong. There is nothing that strengthens the ego more than being right. Being right is identification with a mental position — a perspective, an opinion, a judgment, a story. For you to be right, of course, you need someone else to be wrong, and so the ego loves to make wrong in order to be right. In other words: You need to make others wrong in order to get a stronger sense of who you are. Not only a person, but also a situation can be made wrong through complaining and reactivity, which always implies that “this should not be happening.” Being right places you in a position of imagined moral superiority in relation to the person or situation that is being judged and found wanting. It is that sense of superiority the ego craves and through which it enhances itself.”
Transcending Suffering
If you don’t fully process your emotions whenever they arise in life’s events or circumstances, they tend to hide in the unconscious mind, behind memories. You may not remember them consciously, but they remain alive, influencing your thoughts, actions, reactions, and decisions. The level of pain these hidden emotions carry may manifest as sadness, anger, unhappiness, unfulfillment, regret, or various forms of personal trauma. No matter how many years they remain buried or how much effort is placed on “forgiveness,” the events that caused the pain continue to exist in your unconscious self until you become aware of them.
Only by facing this pain head-on, without avoiding its memories or the emotions it triggers, can you take the first step toward dissolving it. If tears fall—whether as a single drop or pouring like rain, if the thunder of emotions shakes your soul—be open and allow yourself to go deeper into the core of the pain: the source of the “voice” that has been silent for so long. Cry if needed. Process it as deeply and as long as you can handle. Hold on until there are no more tears or memories to feel and review.
Let it dissolve into silence. In that silence, let the voice of wisdom speak and listen for the revelations it may whisper to you.
Do not resist the pain that arises during this purification process. The stronger the pain, the more presence is required to hold its energy and transmute it into peace.
If the purification process does not reveal insight or bring a sense of profound peace, repeat the process as needed.
The Hidden Lessons on Human Experiences
It does not matter what has happened to you, your life circumstances, or what you are going through now. What matters is whether you can perceive the lessons inherent in your past and present experiences. There is no need for guilt or victimhood to distort perception and create suffering—just complete trust in the Flow of Life, moving and acting through you, allowing the Now to be as it is.
No resistance, complaints, or internal commentary. No thoughts or emotions pulling your attention away from the absolute reality of the Now. To allow this moment to be as it is, is to accept whatever the Field is creating and expressing through you at this time.
Can you release control and “let the Great Will be done”?
On the following pages, you will read what Great Masters have said about suffering, so you can perceive the truth and act accordingly. This is not an easy task, but it is an essential practice if we truly want to overcome judgments of ourselves and others, or of circumstances that arise in our lifetime.
It is recommended to read each message, pause, and reflect on its meaning before moving to the next one. In this way, the truth can be felt deeply within your being, freeing your sense of self from judgments. Read, listen to the inner voice in silence, let it sink deeply into your perception, and practice until it becomes part of your daily interactions with life.
Transmuting Suffering into Peace
According to Buddha Teachings
If you focus on the hurt, you will continue to suffer.
If you focus on the lesson, you will continue to grow.
When thinking about life, remember this:
No amount of guilt can solve the past, and no amount of anxiety can change the future
Transmuting Suffering into Peace
According to Yeshua/Jesus Teachings
“ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27
I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
“…Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. And the peace that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ…”
Philippians 4:6
Transmuting Suffering into Peace
According to Pantajali Teachings
Consciousness and the Pure Awareness underlying it are separate, but generally feel like the same thing. This is the primary failure of human understanding, a defect that produces suffering with every thought and action.
Pure Awareness underlies all thoughts and perception right now, and one need only recognize it fully in order to be free of suffering.
Transmuting Suffering into Peace
According to Lao Tzu Teachings
If you are depressed,
You are living in the past.
If you are anxious,
You are living in the future.
If you are at peace,
You are living in the present.
– Lao Tzu
Transmuting Suffering into Peace
According to Eckhart Tolle Teachings
“Suffering needs time. It cannot survive in the Now”
“For most people, their spiritual teacher is their suffering. Because eventually the suffering brings about awakening”
“Is suffering really necessary? Yes and no. If you had not suffered as you have, there would be no depth you as human being… no compassion. You would not be reading this now. Suffering cracks open the shell of ego, and then comes a point when it has served its purpose. Suffering is necessary until you realize it is unnecessary. ”
